Sherpa Heart Land Treks
An introductory trek into the home of the Sherpa people. Majestic mountains, views of Mt Everest, cultural insights, and a lot of good laughs!
If you are unsure about the appeal of trekking, or you just want to have a taste of what all the fuss is about then trek into the Sherpa heartland and discover a new world. By taking our time we are able to gain an insight into the day to day lives of these fun-loving people.
Life is not easy at altitude so the Sherpa people have developed a wicked sense of humour and really enjoy a good laugh. Add the bonus views of the enormous Himalaya and this trek is about the best value Nepal can provide. Take the time to check out the Sherpa religious sites in the hills and Kathmandu too, they are both beautiful and deeply spiritual.

Day 1 - Arrival Kathmandu transfer to Hotel
Meet with our representative at the airport. Drive to hotel.
Day 2 - Kathmandu
Sightseeing Day see Kathmandu Day Trips for ideas of what to do.
Day 3 - Kathmandu - Lukla – Phakdhing
Early morning fly to Lukla and walk to Phakding. The flight has great views of about 200 km of the eastern Himalayas. After arriving in Lukla we walk through picturesque Sherpa villages to Phakding.
Day 4 - Phakdhing - Namche Bazaar
Criss-cross several bridges over the Dudh koshi River we then begin the long climb up to Namche Bazaar. During the climb there are views of Everest through pine forest. Namche is the main trading spot of the Khumbu region and has bakeries, Email service, money exchange, equipment shops, Sherpa Museum, and the National Park Headquarters.
Day 5 - Namche Bazaar
Acclimatization day. Use today to rest and explore the surrounding villages of Khumjung and Kunde, take in the sights and sounds of this famous bazaar, or check out the schools and hospitals set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary.
Day 6 - Namche Bazaar - Tengboche
Early morning views of Mt Everest with breakfast before a flattish walk and then downhill to Phunki Tenga where we then climb up to Tengboche.
Day 7 - Tengboche
A day to explore the views around Tengboche and to visit the stunning monastery. This World Heritage site was originally built in 1916 but was destroyed by an earthquake in 1934. The rebuilt Gompa was then again destroyed in 1989 by fire, but the new buildings are true to the original designs and form an idyllic setting for the 30 or so young monks who live here.
Day 8 - Tengboche - Khumjung
We retrace our steps down to Phortse Tenga, and then we trek up to Khumjung to check out the Himalayan Trust projects, or a pizza from the German bakery if you are so inclined!
Day 9 - Khumjung - Phakding
Passing though Namche Bazaar we then have a very easy day retracing our steps, enjoy stopping off at tea shops and perhaps do a little shopping for souvenirs along the way.
Day 10 - Phakding - Lukla
Take your time and perhaps plan your next trip to the Himalaya on our final day in the mountains. At Lukla we celebrate the end of the trek!
Day 11 - Lukla - Kathmandu
Early morning fly to Kathmandu and drive to Hotel
Day 12 - Kathmandu
Final Day end of trek debrief and departure. |
