Picos de Europa Trek
The Picos de Europa National Park was the first in Spain and contains the finest mountain scenery, walking and wilderness on the Iberian Peninsula. High, jagged limestone peaks form lunar landscapes, which are a stark and beautiful contrast with lush green valleys, where wildlife is as rich as anywhere in Europe - the most celebrated being wolves and bears.
We follow remote shepherd trails in rarely visited gorges of the eastern massif and stay in simple pensions where we see how the traditional way of life continues. The scenery slowly transforms to spectacular lunar landscapes of the central range, where the huge half-domed bulk of the 'Naranjo de Bulnes' towers above the isolated but serviced mountain huts where we stay.
This unforgettable experience takes us to remote locations with beautiful moonscapes, where we are rewarded with some incredible walking.

Accommodation
& Centre Details |
| |
4 nights hotel, 3 nights pension/mountain huts.
Our first accommodation is a small, comfortable and friendly hotel in Arenas de Cabrales, where rooms are on a twin-share basis with private bath or shower rooms. The final two nights are spent back in this hotel, so there is the opportunity to leave some belongings here for the week.
In Tresviso we stay in a small family-run pension, normally in twin rooms with private facilities when available; very occasionally we may have to use the adjoining bunkhouse. In Sotres we stay in small family-run hotel, in twin
rooms with private facilities.
We then stay two nights in simple mountain refuges with dormitory accommodation (one long sleeping platform rather than separate bunks) and basic washing facilities. If the weather is good, it is possible to sleep out under the stars (you will need a sleeping mat if you intend to do this). During the driest months there are often no washing facilities inside the huts and an
outside tap is all that is available.
Single Accommodation
No single rooms are available on this trip due to the limited sized of the mountain huts and pensions where we stay.
Extra Accommodation
We can book any additional accommodation you require before or after the trip, either in at a hotel in Bilbao or in Arenas de Cabrales (subject to availability). Please notify us at the time of booking and we will provide up-todate
prices. Please note a £5 booking fee is added to the invoice. |
